Don't you just love online dating sites? They're a great way to meet people who share your interests. If you've been finding yourself tired of the local dating routine, online dating can be a refreshing experience.

There are so many advantages to online dating. Sure, there might be rejection - but everyone deals with that on the local dating scene anyway. And the extra bit of anonymity in online dating helps you to deal with any potential rejection anyway. And when someone sounds good, you can spend some time getting to know them in cyberspace before you commit to meeting them in person. You also get the opportunity to meet a far wider range of people than you would normally have access to in your day to day world.

You definitely want to make a good first impression. Most importantly, show your personality!

Here are some tips to help you stand out from the rest of the crowd.

1. Pick the best photo you have.

Of course you're going to choose a photo in which you look the most attractive. But make sure your personality shows through, too. Let's say you've got a humorous side to you. Your best bet would be an attractive picture that hints at this funny aspect of your personality. Or maybe you love to read. If that's the case, show yourself at the library, or the bookstore, or maybe reading your favorite book.

2. Have a welcoming welcome message.

What you say in your welcome message can add (or take away from) your initial first impression. Let your personality shine through. You can be friendly and casual, but at the same time, serious, too, because you want to be taken seriously. Make sure your words reflect what an interesting and intelligent person you are.

3. Send prompt replies.

You've got mail! That's great, but make sure to be prompt to respond to emails. Write in a natural manner, be friendly, and show your interest.

4. Keep an updated profile.

You don't want to give anyone any surprises, so it's important that you keep your profile up-to-date with current information. If you're not available temporarily because you're dating someone, say so. And don't forget, if you move to another city, change your location in your profile.

Making a good impression is an important first step to getting the most out of your online dating experience. Let your personality shine through - in your photo, in your profile, and in your correspondence.
